SEO for new websites: what to do first?

Before beginning a new website or developing a new online presence for a company, there is some need for SEO for new websites. SEO for new websites is very important, however, because it is important to have your site seen quickly, and also to begin bringing in more targeted traffic as soon as possible. However, in search engine optimisation for new websites it can take some time to see results. The reason for this is that search engines and websites are constantly changing and updating their algorithms. It can take some time to learn the right way to write the perfect web pages for search engine ranking and then to implement those changes in an effective way.

In SEO terms, content is king, and it is important to make sure that you have relevant, fresh content on your site. However, SEO is actually a rather large field, and there's only one major area which is especially important for SEO to succeed: site structure. Site structure is the way in which information is presented to your visitors and search engines, and if done correctly, it can lead to significant SEO success. In this article I'll briefly talk about what I mean by the site structure and how it impacts SEO.

To start with, the basic premise behind SEO is that the more useful your website is, the better you will be perceived by search engines. This is called SEO for "search engine optimization," and the aim is to improve your site's discoverability in search results by ranking highly in the popular keywords associated with your industry. There are many facets of site structure that can impact SEO, but what you really want to focus on our internal linking structures and taxonomies. Internal linking structures are the sub-categories within a site structure which link directly to other pages. These links back to pages of your site that are most relevant to your topic, and therefore improve your site's SEO rankings.

Taxonomies, meanwhile, are the structural classification structures within your site that allow your search results to target an individual page or topic. For example, you may have your main category or tags (keywords) all linked to a page on your website which contains a few articles that discuss topics in that specific category. In this case, when someone searches for "SEO" via the search engine, the page containing these individual pages will appear high up the search results, so this will help increase your SEO rankings.

Research the right keywords

Before you start adding content to your new site, you need to do a proper keyword research to find out which words your audience is using when they’re searching for your products or services.

Before you get started with your keyword research, ask yourself:

What is your page about? Is it about a product or service you’re selling, like water heaters or burst pipe repair? Or a useful how-to guide on how to fix a garbage disposal unit. When you know what will be the main topic and what information you’ll include, you’ll have an easier time determining the type of keywords you’ll need to target on that page.

What is the main intent of the page? What are your main goals for this page? Is it to sell a product or a service, or is it to provide more information that can help visitors make an educated decision? By figuring out the main intent for a page you’ll be able to focus on more relevant keywords, rather than generic ones.

Now, let’s take a simple example to show you how you can perform your keyword research.

Say you’re selling water heater repair services. Use this as the starting point of your research. So, add the “water heater repair” to various keyword research tools to get more suggestions on what word and phrase variations people are using to search for these services.

Optimise for Page Speed

The second way to optimize for SEO for new sites is to optimize the page speed. There are many ways to optimize the page speed for a website, however, the most important step is to make sure that a new site's crawl and index rates are high. If search engines see that your site is frequently being updated and that pages are getting crawled often, they will rank you higher. Search engine optimisation for increasing page speed can be done by running continuous content upgrades or even rewriting some content if it fits in with the theme of the site.

Start Writing!

One way to help with SEO for new websites and blogs is to find keywords that are relevant to the business name and website. One such example is a blog post about dog grooming. A search engine will look at a few specific keyword phrases that refer to that topic and rank the blog post at the top of the search engine results page. If the keyword phrase is "Dog grooming", then the post should be near the top of the rankings for that specific phrase.

Write about all those topics that are important to your audience. Use the words you came up with in your keyword research. You need to have content about the topics you want to rank for to start ranking in the search results.

But also: improve those snippets

Take a look at your results in the search engines once you start ranking (the so-called snippets). Are those meta descriptions and the titles of the search results inviting? Are they tempting enough for your audience to click on them? Or should you write better ones?

With our SEO services, we help you to write great titles and meta descriptions. That’ll really help in attracting traffic to your site.
